Hazel Milne

 Vice Chair of the African Alliance for Sustainable Tourism and Program Coordinator of the Eco Awards Namibia tourism certification programme, holds a Hons B. Diac degree UNISA (1985).  She is a qualified and experienced Trainer, Mentor and Assessor for Tourist Guides in Namibia, and was instrumental in developing a Mutual Recognition system among the many Sustainable Tourism Certification programs in Africa. She also regularly delivers guest lectures at the Tourism Faculties of UNAM and NUST.

 

THE ECO AWARDS NAMIBIA EXPERIENCE IN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

 

This presentation will focus on observations made in the field of rating sustainable tourism during the last 10 years, which has revealed interesting tendencies and innovative approaches to design, construction and operation of tourism businesses.  Eco Awards Namibia, the only sustainability Certification Programme for Namibian tourism establishments and operations, is an alliance of private sector, civil society, tertiary institutions and government. This Alliance promote, supports and facilitates the development of responsible and sustainable tourism in Namibia.  Eco Awards assessments are being done for Tourism  accommodation establishments – big or small, urban or rural, as well as for Tour Operators.
