Emmanuel Murenje

Zimbabwe-born Emmanuel Murenje, Architect-in-Training with Gachiku Kamau Architects, holds an Environmental Management MBA & a Construction Project Management B.Tech in addition to his B. Arch from IIT,Roorkee, India. He is zealous in environmental matters as well as those pertaining to sustainability and good building practice.

He has also attended several local and international conventions on the subject matter and is the project architect on Havana Primary School.

 

 ‘GREENING HAVANA PRIMARY SCHOOL’: TOWARD A MORE HUMANE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

This presentation looks at the climatic and topographical challenges faced by the proposed Havana Primary School and how the consulting team sought to provide solutions to these challenges, covering principles applied to mitigate these extremes.

It will also look at the process proposing the use of alternative technology, namely sandbag construction, the benefits there-of and ultimately the reasons why this ‘green’ solution was rejected by the client, the Department of Works.
